Benefits

We consider that our research could contribute to the reduction of the total cost per container, as well as to the improvement of container railway transportation and implicitly to the reduction of empty containers returns.
Also, our project could contribute to the improvement of the transportation services quality and consequently to the optimization of the whole logistic chain:
- the improvement of these procedures will ensure goods reloading in time
- the optimization of the whole system will result in a better priority management
- the punctuality of the information exchange will ensure the planning, programming and maximum control

Romanian Network

The Romanian railway infrastructure is owned by the national transportation company - CFR SA - and gathers 10 781 km.
Generally speaking, the railroad network is underdeveloped and cannot claim to fit European standards, the main cause being the lack of investments.
This situation is also due to the fact that, in general, less attention was given to the development of roads to the disadvantage of railways.
Since 1990 until today, the railway has lost approximately 5 percent in length, reaching 10 800 km from 11350 due to closing some lines which were rarely used.
